{"id":9,"date":"2012-12-18T14:11:21","date_gmt":"2012-12-18T14:11:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/amcondev2\/?page_id=9"},"modified":"2025-07-16T04:11:45","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T04:11:45","slug":"course-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/amcondev2\/course-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Info"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"padding-left: 40px\">GOV320N \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 M-W 2:30-4:00Mezes B.0306<\/div>\n<h2>Office Hours and Locations<\/h2>\n<p>My Wednesday office hours will be after class at the Cactus Cafe Union as available or other places on or near campus<\/p>\n<p>Other office hours will be\u00a0 before class, 1:30-2:30<\/p>\n<p>Other times on Monday and Wednesday I\u00a0 can be\u00a0 available by appointment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Who Should Not Take This Course?<\/strong><br \/>\nAnyone prone to putting everything off until the exam and not being willing to keep up with daily assignment&#8211;that is unrepentant and unchangeable <strong>PROCRASTINATORS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nHow Can Students Make This Course Easier?<\/strong><br \/>\nSpend all the time necessary in the first few weeks to write very good\u00a0 to excellent briefs and put together a study group.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Prizes<\/strong><br \/>\nIt is my custom to award prizes for\u00a0 the best scores on each exam and the highest averages for the semester.\u00a0 For the highest individual exam scores the prize is a U.S. Supreme Court coffee mug or other similar item. \u00a0 For the highest average , the prize is an engraved plaque with a gavel and the Supreme Court seal and a signed copy\u00a0 of Clarence Thomas\u2019s autobiography, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">My Grandfather\u2019s Son<\/span>. The inscription is directed to to the winner.\u00a0 There are also other\u00a0 prizes, e.g., for most improvement from one exam to another<\/p>\n<p><strong>SUGGESTION<\/strong>\u00a0 Students\u00a0 have found that study groups of from 4 to 8 classmates are extremely helpful\u00a0 in mastering this course.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>What is required of students in the course:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A. Keep up with reading and briefing for each class.<\/p>\n<p>B. Know the cases\u00a0<strong>before coming to class.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>C. A willingness to be an active participant in the class.<\/p>\n<p>D. A willingness to go beyond any self imposed academic limits.<br \/>\n<strong>Course Requirements<\/strong><br \/>\n1. 3 hours exams approximately 65%(40% objective,60% essay)<br \/>\n2. 2 short papers 3-4 pages approximately 20%<br \/>\n3.
