Wen-Hua Teng

The Gateway to Chinese resources were created by Wen-Hua Teng, Ph.D, Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, in conjunction with the College of Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services and the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning (COERLL).

The idea to create these resources derived from Dr. Teng’s own need for effective independent practice opportunities for her students. Particularly in the area of pronunciation, she saw a void in practise materials for beginners. She partnered with the staff at the College of Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services, who provided technological expertise and project development support. In 2010, Gateway to Chinese became a project of COERLL, a National Foreign Language Resource Center funded by the U.S. Department of Education and based at U.T. Austin.

For future additions to the website, Dr. Teng continues to survey her students about what other language learning tools they need. All of the Gateway to Chinese resources are Open Educational Resources (OER) and available for free to the public. For more, see the Gateway to Chinese project page on COERLL’s website.
