Each lesson has a reading assignment from the textbook, and references to supplementary material if you wish to learn more about a topic. You will complete and turn in 9 assignments for the class, totaling up to 100 possible points.

Goals of the Course:

The primary goals of the course are to help you understand and articulate the value of your college education, including your major, and enhance your ability to apply it to your future plans. When the course is completed you will have:

Learned how chaos theory can help you make sense of your job search

Created a Wandering Map and identified key themes or threads in your life

Identified key mindsets and analyzed your major for its value in the workplace

Identified your Possible Lives

Created a personal Career Action Plan

Learned how to conduct experiments which can lead to jobs

Investigated and identified fields of career interest

Created powerful stories for interviews and job fairs

Drafted a cover letter for a desired position

Written a targeted resume for your field of interest or graduate school

Assignments, Grading and Course Outline:

Because this is a career class not a traditional academic theory-based class, there are no tests or exams. You will turn in assignments that will be graded based on the level of thought and action you put into them. There are 7 assignments which are worth 10 points each and 2 assignments valued at 15 points each. Instructions for completing each assignment and the basis for the grade will be explained in each lesson.
The outline for the course and points for each assignment are as follows:

The assignments are not graded as “right” or “wrong” but based on the thought you put into them and the quality of your responses. If your answers are short and superficial and it appears you have not put much thought into them, your grade will be lower. In particular, the cover letter and resume assignments are graded with the employer in mind. If they contain spelling errors, formatting mistakes, or wouldn’t be acceptable to an employer they will receive a lower grade. One assignment, the Mindsets Worksheet, must be completed in a proctored environment. You can use your textbook as needed to complete the assignment and you will not need to study prior to completing your Mindsets Worksheet. You just need to read the instructions, complete the worksheet, and turn it in at the center. You should plan on taking about an hour to complete the worksheet.

Method of Instruction: This is an online class, which is divided into 8 lessons.
