This Set Design is used for an in-person livestream course, produced in the LAITS Development Studio. For creating remote online course requests, please refer to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/2020\/07\/21\/creating-remote-online-course-packages\/\">this<\/a>\u00a0KB instructions instead.<br \/>\nThere are several parts to this training: Theme Art Design, Set Design, Canvas Graphics, PowerPoint Design, and iPad Design.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some examples of works done by the STAs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PSY 352 Abnormal Psychology &#8211; Thuy H Nguyen:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sta.laits.utexas.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/final_collection5.png\">https:\/\/sta.laits.utexas.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/final_collection5.png<\/a><\/li>\n<li>HDO 301 Introduction to the Human Dimensions of Organizations &#8211; Maddy Kaniewski:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sta.laits.utexas.edu\/?s=hdo301\">https:\/\/sta.laits.utexas.edu\/?s=hdo301<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Part 1: Theme Art Design<\/h1>\n<p>This theme art will be the center of most of the designs.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Take some time to choose a color palette. Keep in mind that this palette also depends on the Professor&#8217;s \/ Project Manager&#8217;s request. Here are some resources for choosing a palette:\n<ul>\n<li>UT Color Palette:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/brand.utexas.edu\/identity\/color\/\">https:\/\/brand.utexas.edu\/identity\/color\/<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Color Palette Generator:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coolors.co\/\">https:\/\/coolors.co\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Use this palette throughout the design process to ensure cohesiveness. In addition, the colors of the artwork might be different when projected onto a monitor. <strong>Often, blue-tinted colors appear more accurate when projected as opposed to red, orange, or yellow.<\/strong> Here&#8217;s how the burnt orange looked like when projected. The steps to composing these elements are very similar:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Start with a blank 1920 x 1080 px, 72 dpi Photoshop or Illustrator file.<\/li>\n<li>Include the Theme Art, or elements that reflect the Theme Art.<\/li>\n<li>Include course information:\n<ul>\n<li>Course number and Title (i.e. PSY 352 Abnormal Psychology)<\/li>\n<li>Instructor&#8217;s title and name (i.e. Dr. Christopher Beevers)<\/li>\n<li>UT Branding. Depending on the Project Manager&#8217;s \/ Prof&#8217;s request, you may choose department branding (<a href=\"https:\/\/liberalarts.utexas.edu\/public-affairs\/branding-guidelines\/department-branding.php\">https:\/\/liberalarts.utexas.edu\/public-affairs\/branding-guidelines\/department-branding.php)<\/a> or general UT branding (<a href=\"https:\/\/liberalarts.utexas.edu\/public-affairs\/branding-guidelines\/\">https:\/\/liberalarts.utexas.edu\/public-affairs\/branding-guidelines\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Export as JPG.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Below are some specific guidelines native to each element to consider while you design.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/WallMonitor-DeskSkirt.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3622\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/WallMonitor-DeskSkirt-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/WallMonitor-DeskSkirt-1024x683.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/WallMonitor-DeskSkirt-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/WallMonitor-DeskSkirt-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Wall Monitor (1920 x 1080 px || 72 dpi || JPG)<\/h2>\n<p>This monitor is directly behind the speaker (Professor or TA).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>The monitor should not distract the viewer from the speaker.<\/li>\n<li>The text on the monitor should be visible and not obstructed by the speaker (i.e. head, hair, hand gestures, etc.). In the PSY 352 example image above, you can see that the course information is placed on the top-left corner.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Desk Skirt\u00a0(1920 x 1080 px || 72 dpi || JPG)<\/h2>\n<p>This monitor is directly underneath the speaker.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>This monitor is not visible too often. It is generally a good place to compose a simpler, less busy design. Consider including only elements of the Theme Art and not the full Theme Art.<\/li>\n<li>The most important pieces of information for this monitor is the course number and title.<\/li>\n<li>Consider using the full department branding for the course, since there will be more whitespace.<\/li>\n<li>For example, the desk skirt for PSY 352 only contains the brush strokes from the main Theme Art while keeping the focus on the course number and title.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/desk_skirt2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3631\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/desk_skirt2-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/desk_skirt2-1024x576.png 1024w, http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/desk_skirt2-300x169.png 300w, http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/desk_skirt2-768x432.png 768w, http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/desk_skirt2.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Vertical Monitor\u00a0(1920 x 1080 px || 72 dpi)<\/h2>\n<p>This monitor is a regular 1920 x 1080 px monitor placed <strong>vertically\u00a0<\/strong>at the TA&#8217;s corner.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>For ease of design, set your canvas to 1080 x 1920 px.<\/li>\n<li>The most important pieces of information for this monitor is the course number and title.<\/li>\n<li>Consider using the full department branding for the course, since there will be more whitespace.<\/li>\n<li>Export.\n<ul>\n<li>Export your art in JPG, either from Photoshop or Illustrator.<\/li>\n<li>Open up the JPG file in Photoshop.<\/li>\n<li>Select the image, then click Image &gt; Image Rotation &gt; 90\u00b0 Counter Clockwise.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/Screen-Shot-2020-06-22-at-2.21.15-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3647\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/Screen-Shot-2020-06-22-at-2.21.15-PM.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"753\" height=\"917\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/Screen-Shot-2020-06-22-at-2.21.15-PM.png 753w, http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/kb\/files\/2020\/06\/Screen-Shot-2020-06-22-at-2.21.15-PM-246x300.png 246w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Save.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Obtain reviews from the Project Manager \/ Team Lead \/ Design Specialist before continuing on the next part.<\/p>\n<h1>Part 3: Canvas Graphics<\/h1>\n<p>The Canvas Graphics will be very similar to the Set Design. Again, you will be utilizing the Theme Art and Theme Art components throughout. Pay attention to the dimensions and specs of the exported file.<\/p>\n<h2>Canvas Homepage (800 x 300 px || 72 dpi || JPG)<\/h2>\n<p>This is the banner image the student will see when they access a course through Canvas. Here are some things to keep in mind while designing lecture PowerPoints<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Background\n<ul>\n<li>Keep it simple, with minimal design, for maximum readability.<\/li>\n<li>It is recommended that it be kept white.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Text\n<ul>\n<li>Use Helvetica across the slides<\/li>\n<li>Use reasonable font-sizes.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the font-sizes consistent across the slides. Please note that additional activities may be requested by the professor \/ Project Manager.<\/p>\n<p>Although these slides will be displayed in PowerPoint, you might want to consider designing them in Photoshop \/ Illustrator.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ensure that the branding in these slides is consistent with the Main PowerPoint.<\/li>\n<li>You might want to consider adding vector icons or copyright-free images, with colors consistent with the palette \/ theme art.\n<ul>\n<li>For example, for PSY 352, I picked some copyright-free images, desaturated them slightly, then added the theme art brush strokes at low opacity as the background texture.
