The articulatory movements are exactly the same as those for the alveolar voiced stop <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-504 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-2.png\" alt=\"Picture 2\" width=\"21\" height=\"23\" \/>.\u00a0 The only difference is in the case of the above sound represented by the letter <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-505\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-3.png\" alt=\"Picture 3\" width=\"21\" height=\"19\" \/> (n), the air is emitted through the nasal cavity.\u00a0 This is a voiced alveolar nasal. It occurs medially and finally.<\/p>\n<p>The letters\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-507\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-3.1.png\" alt=\"Picture 3.1\" width=\"21\" height=\"22\" \/> and\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-508\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-3.2.png\" alt=\"Picture 3.2\" width=\"20\" height=\"22\" \/> are different in pronounciation\u00a0 (Frame 5).\u00a0 The letters\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-509\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-41.png\" alt=\"Picture 4\" width=\"83\" height=\"23\" \/> etc., are always pronounced alveolar as in the English\u00a0 words, name, invitation etc.\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-510\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-5.png\" alt=\"Picture 5\" width=\"113\" height=\"21\" \/> etc. can never occur in the beginning of a word. Only <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-511\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-6.png\" alt=\"Picture 6\" width=\"20\" height=\"21\" \/> and its series can occur in the word initial position.\u00a0 This is an important contrast between\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-512\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-7.png\" alt=\"Picture 7\" width=\"22\" height=\"26\" \/> and <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-514\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-81.png\" alt=\"Picture 8\" width=\"21\" height=\"20\" \/>.<\/p>\n<p>Copy the letter for three times. (see Appendix I for hand-movements).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-515\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-11.png\" alt=\"Picture 11\" width=\"45\" height=\"26\" \/>.\u00a0 In its production the tip of the tongue is curled and made to contact the roof of the mouth.\u00a0 The soft palate is lowered as in the production of other nasal and the air stream escapes freely through the nasal cavity.\u00a0 The vocal cords are vibration.\u00a0 This similar in production with <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-518\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-12.png\" alt=\"Picture 12\" width=\"47\" height=\"23\" \/> except that the air stream is emitted through the nasal cavity.\u00a0 This may be described as a voiced retroflex nasal.<\/p>\n<p>This never occurs in the word initial position.\u00a0 Medially it occurs as a single consonant between vowels, as the first member of a consonant cluster, as the second member of a consonant cluster and in an identical consonant cluster.<\/p>\n<p>Compare the letter for (na) with the letter for <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-520\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-131.png\" alt=\"Picture 13\" width=\"36\" height=\"25\" \/> and write them three times each.\u00a0 Your letters should be similar to the ones at the extreme right(see Appendix I for hand-movements).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
