Really! A bar in the Psychology Department…
The SAHARA Lab is one of seven simulated barroom facilities in the country. Designed to look and “feel” like an actual bar, this unique laboratory allows us to test the effects of alcohol intoxication on mood, thought, and behavior.
As part of our Genes and New Experiences Study, approximately 400 individuals who have provided DNA samples will be invited to take part in an alcohol administration session in the SAHARA Lab. Held in the late afternoon hours, these sessions will test the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors people experience after consuming enough alcohol to produce the legal limit of intoxication (in Texas this is .08 g% Blood Alcohol Concentration). In addition to providing important scientific findings, these sessions allow participants to see how alcohol affects them in a safe and controlled setting.
