It may be compared with [-a-] in &#8216;cat&#8217;, but without the [-y-] off-glide; it is also very close to [\u00e1].  (Compare and contrast the English   man and Persian \u0645\u0646   m\u00e1n \u2018I\u2019).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong><em>[tag resources shortvowels_02]e[\/tag]<\/em><\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"80%\">is an open-mid front vowel, very close to [\u025b].  It may be compared with [-e-] in \u201clet\u201d.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td valign=\"top\"><strong><em>[tag resources shortvowels_03]o[\/tag]<\/em><\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"80%\">is a close-mid to open-mid back vowel.  It may be compared with the [-o-] in the second syllable of &#8216;colonize&#8217;.
