The soft palate is raised to close the nasal passage.  The vocal cords are vibrated.  This may be described as a voiced alveolar trill.  This will not occur in the word initial position.  This occurs in the word medial position as a single consonant between two vowels as in the word, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-771\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/word13.jpg\" alt=\"word1\" width=\"40\" height=\"23\" \/> and as the first member of a consonant cluster.<\/p>\n<p>It is to be recollected that we have seen <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-750\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/r1.jpg\" alt=\"r\" width=\"17\" height=\"23\" \/> before in Frame 3. It is very essential to know the difference between <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/r1.jpg\" alt=\"r\" width=\"17\" height=\"23\" \/> (r) and <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/rline.jpg\" alt=\"rline\" width=\"16\" height=\"22\" \/> (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">r<\/span>) in the pronunciation and writing.  The difference should be maintained, because in similar context these two sounds bring change in meaning.  The <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/r1.jpg\" alt=\"r\" width=\"17\" height=\"23\" \/> occurs in a word in all positions.  It occurs medially as a single consonant between two vowels, as in \u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-757\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/word2.jpg\" alt=\"word2\" width=\"40\" height=\"23\" \/>, as the first member of a consonant cluster, as the second member of a consonant cluster and as the first member of a three consonant cluster.<\/p>\n<p>Write three times the letter.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-768\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/write11.jpg\" alt=\"write1\" width=\"303\" height=\"79\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/write11.jpg 421w, https:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/write11-300x78.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The vowels <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-772\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/a8.jpg\" alt=\"a\" width=\"22\" height=\"19\" \/>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-773\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/aa4.jpg\" alt=\"aa\" width=\"22\" height=\"19\" \/>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-774\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/i3.jpg\" alt=\"i\" width=\"22\" height=\"19\" \/>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-775\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/36.jpg\" alt=\"ii\" width=\"23\" height=\"20\" \/>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-776\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/elittle3.jpg\" alt=\"elittle\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>, <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-777\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/eesmall3.jpg\" alt=\"eesmall\" width=\"22\" height=\"19\" \/> are added to this consonant. Note how they are written with their respective secondary symbols. While reading the first letter <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/rline.jpg\" alt=\"rline\" width=\"16\" height=\"22\" \/> in such a cluster it is always pronounced like <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-754\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/tdot.jpg\" alt=\"tdot\" width=\"17\" height=\"23\" \/> (\u1e6d) and the following <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-745\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/2p1.jpg\" alt=\"2p1\" width=\"17\" height=\"23\" \/> as it is, that is trill. Here <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/word11.jpg\" alt=\"word11\" width=\"38\" height=\"21\" \/> is pronounced as (\u1e6d<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">r<\/span>) as in the English word, \u2018attraction\u2019.
