This is a high, back, rounded, short vowel.\u00a0 It occurs in words initially and medially. The letter\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-631\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.la.utexas.edu\/tamilscript\/files\/2009\/08\/Picture-25.png\" alt=\"Picture 2\" width=\"28\" height=\"20\" \/> represents the sound.<br \/>\nIn spoken Tamil this sound is pronounced with spread lips in the middle and final positions other than in the initial syllable.
