For the logo that is created for the CSMS course, they all follow similar guidelines but have different styles. This can be seen in the slides above. Since these are computer science courses, they typically have nodes or circuits in the design.

Here are elements that can be included in the logo design:

  • Make the logo white, for variations in the logo, you can lower the opacity of the white.
  • Circles
  • Lines

Animation Process:

For this CSMS, there is a standardized After Effects template that should always be used when creating the animations. Your main focus would be:

  1. Selecting the appropriate template – subtitle or no subtitle
  2. Changing the background color for the respective course (blue, orange, tan)
  3. Changing the course and professor name
  4. Importing and animating the Illustrator logo

Now let’s go in-depth for each of these steps:

  1. Template:
  • When you open up the After Effects template, you will have to choose which template composition you want to use. Depending on the course you are given you might only have a title, or a title with a subtitle. There are templates for each:
  • This is the subtitle template:
  • This is the no-subtitle template:

2. Background:

  • Now that you have a template selected, you will need to change the color of the background in the template. Here are the CSMS colors:
    • • ▪ Blue ▪ •
      • Primary: ▣ (#005f86)
      • Secondary: ▣ (#9cadb7)
      • Text:  ▣  (#ffffff)
    • • ▪ Orange ▪ •
      • Primary: ▣ (#CSMS-MSDS-Quantum-iPad)
      • Secondary: ▣ (#E9A56C)
      • Text:  ▣  (#ffffff)
    • • ▪ Cream ▪ •
      • Primary: ▣ (#d6d2c4)
      • Secondary: ▣ (#A19E94)
      • Text: ▣ (#333f48)
  • Based on the colors above, change the primary color and secondary color background in the After Effect Template
  • Since the BG is a solid, you will change the color by having the layer selected, click layer > Solid Settings:
  • You will be taken to this window where you can change the BG color with the corresponding HEX code.
  • Besides the BG, you will also need to change the color of the flying cursor. This one is different from the others since it is not a solid
  • With the layer selected, you will need to change the HEX code at the top of the AE screen where it says fill color

3. Course & Professor Names:

  • For the course title, it is a typing animation. By double clicking on the title, you can change the name of the course.
  • Add the end of the course title, leave a space and a period. This is to ensure the cursor at the end of the title continues blinking in the animation.
  • With the course title selected in the menu, go to effects for the type_on animation. You will adjust the slider to where the cursor stops on the period.
  • For the professor name and the subtitle(is needed), it slides from under the main title text with a mask. By double clicking on the professor name, you can change the text.
  • If the mask is too short, turn the visibility on for the mask and adjust it’s position and size.

4. Animation:

  • Now it’s time to begin the animation process. You will be creating your animation based on the logo illustrator file you created. You will need to import that illustrator file as a new composition.
  • You will be taken to your computer folder where you can locate the illustrator file. Make sure:
    • Enable: All Acceptable Files
    • Import As: Composition – Retain Layer Sizes
  • You should be taken to your new composition that was created. In this composition, you will be animating the logo.
  • In the main composition (subtitle or no-subtitle), You will drag the logo composition into the timeline.
  • Reposition the logo to appear on the left side of the composition and adjust its appearance on the timeline.
