Interviewing
Your resume, cover letter, and career planning documents can only take you so far in the process. At some point you will have to meet with a potential employer.
Interviewing, whether a quick 3 minute “tell me about yourself” process at a job fair, or an extended day at a company, involves a different set of skills from what you have used so far. Much of the focus so far has been on thinking, analyzing, and writing—now it’s time to speak.
You never know when an interview might occur—you’ve already learned about the Butterfly Effect, and you know that you can just run into someone who can help you with your job search, so the more prepared you are to handle those situations the better.
In this lesson you will identify the key points you plan to tell an interviewer about—your strengths, your education, your experiences, etc. You will also learn a powerful way for getting those points across—storytelling. By crafting interesting stories which illustrate your talents, you will demonstrate your qualifications for the position you are seeking.
Objectives
By the end of this lesson you will:
* Understand the different types of interviews you might encounter
* Understand the rationale for storytelling—not only in the interview but as a valuable leadership tool
* Understand how to use a SWOT analysis to prepare for an interview
* Create sample compelling interview stories
