There is an increasing amount of demand in the English-speaking world for knowledge of the Persian language. The University of Texas at Austin is offering this free, web-based supplemental resource as a service to teachers and students of Persian everywhere, whether they work formally or informally, inside or outside of the classroom, in groups or individually.
This website is primarily a pedagogical reference grammar, which is organized by main subjects
in the left navigation menu. The entire site is also indexed alphabetically. Grammar points are explained
in English, supported by examples in English/phonetic transcription/
فارسی.
There is discussion of a phonology throughout, explaining differences between the formal and informal/colloquial diglossia.

The purpose is to help you to read, listen, repeat and practice orally in front of your computer as you learn about Persian. There are short videos in the Culture & Video section, Vocabulary Lists with audio for study, and multiple choice Quizzes for review. For writing assistance, see The Writing System and How to Type in Persian.
In the end, it must be understood that no matter how much a person studies a foreign language, an integral part of the learning process is putting all the accumulated knowledge to use; i.e., speaking and writing the language—the more, the better. The primary goal of this tool is to help you increase your overall time spent reading, listening, speaking and writing Persian, whatever your current level of proficiency may be.
